Untangle, The Meditation Studio app Podcast : Trauma & Personal Cultivation

August 28, 2018

I had a great interview with Patricia Karpas on Untangle, The Meditation Studio Podcast a few weeks back. We had a beautiful conversation about the Daoist approach to working through our traumas and personal cultivation.

Some of the topics we covered were:

  • The importance of inner honesty and vulnerability

  • Learning to come out of our cage so we can love ourselves and the world more

  • Mindfulness, slowing down and coming into presence with ourselves

  • Inner honesty vs judgement of self or other

  • The beauty of including the entirety of the human experience - physical, emotional, spirituality

  • The importance and power of side-processing before we approach our deeper traumas or triggers

  • The practical application of psycho-neuro-immunology and its relationship to meditation

  • Getting to the source of our triggers vs just learning to cope with them

  • Cultivate don’t medicate - take medicines to help yourself learn vs numbing to difficult experiences

  • The relationship between the Daoist approach to meditation and Chinese medicine

  • Depression/Suicide - latency of our emotional experiences, not keeping things trapped inside and the relationship to depression, suicide

  • Inner judgement in the modern world, the loss of community for sacred space to help us process

  • The separation between physical, emotional and spiritual lives being intrinsically unhealthy - not natural to humans

  • Over medication, diets, side-effects…

  • Latency - toxicity over time… societal pains -- depression/suicide/shooting

  • The 9 Palaces and our life journey - what we came in with (DNA and personality) and our big life events

  • Social and emotional patterning in our lives vs our unique journey - DNA (jing) and Spirit (shen)

  • Turning our deeper wounds into our deepest medicine so that we come out even more whole, integrated, and healthy

  • Holding space for our partner in their imperfections (like us) and maintaining our boundaries

  • Honoring the right for our partner to have their journey but not taking on their journey

  • Watching for should/should not statements - seeing how our judgment leaks through and pollutes our interactions

It was a great talk and I think you’ll enjoy it. Let me know what you think. I’d love the feedback!
