How I Work

Transformational Life Coaching

I’ve spent the last 16 years helping people get to the bottom of their issues and solve them forever. My goal is to help you begin to see your patterns of behavior and how they relate to whatever struggle you are currently facing. I want to share the tools and methods I’ve learned over the decades so that you can look deeply into your life to find meaning and emerge feeling empowered by your life journey and who you are.

We’ll work to discover a new way of understanding and navigating your life so that you’ll be able to free yourself from your past and be empowered to face anything life throws at you. This process takes work and it takes time. While I can give you tools that you’ll be able to apply instantly, true change will come only through your continued application of these tools in your daily life. Like anything, practice makes perfect, and transformation is no different.

If you're struggling and want to move beyond the space of self-judgment and become empowered by who you are, give me a call. I guarantee that you can make the changes you dream of.

Chronic Health Concerns

My specialty is working with complex chronic symptoms. In Western medical terms, these are often classified as autoimmune or chronic degenerative diseases. Some examples would include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, Type II Diabetes, Thyroid Disorders, Lyme Disease, various cancers, chronic fatigue, etc.

I do not treat the disease. I treat YOU as a unique individual.

Chronic health problems require teamwork. The first part of my job is to discern what is happening in your body. Our first steps together will focus on gathering information to figure out why you have your symptoms and how we can get you feeling better as quickly as possible. I've set up this process to help save time and money in the long-term. It allows us to get to know each other and gives me the information I need to help guide and support you in your journey back to health.

Here are the steps:

  • Fill out all paperwork and send it to the office a minimum of one week BEFORE your appointment. I will spend 45-60 minutes reviewing all the information you provide to me before we meet. This should include your New Patient Packet,  Health History, Food Diary, a complete list of all medications and supplements, and any appropriate lab work or charts from your primary care physician or specialist. THIS MUST BE RECEIVED AT MY OFFICE AT LEAST ONE WEEK BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT.

  • Your first appointment will be a 50-minute face-to-face meeting where I can inquire more about your health, perform classical Chinese pulse and tongue diagnosis, and where you can ask any important questions you might have. At this time I will let you know what other labs we need to order and I will discuss my impression of what I think is happening with your health including what my general treatment strategy will be for you. Common labs I may recommend can include the following:

    • A comprehensive blood chemistry panel.

    • Specific blood tests for cholesterol, hormones, thyroid, gluten or food sensitivities, autoimmune disease, etc.

    • Stool tests to evaluate gut health including possible infections, intestinal inflammation, parasites, fungal overgrowth, dysbiosis and general status of gut bacteria populations.

    • Tests to evaluate nutritional/vitamin deficiencies.

    • Tests to evaluate possible genetic factors contributing to your symptoms.

  • Complete all requested lab work as quickly as possible. It will usually take 3-4 weeks for me to receive all the results, so the quicker you can do your part the quicker I can do mine.

  • We will begin a series of acupuncture treatments while we are waiting for any test results. I will likely prescribe dietary changes, herbal medicines or nutraceuticals to help with your specific symptoms.

  • Once I receive all of the lab results and have reviewed them, my office will contact you to set up an appointment to go over the results. This will be a 45-minute face-to-face appointment. I will review the important details of your labs and make more detailed treatment and lifestyle suggestions based on the information we have gathered. Following this appointment, I will email you a personalized report with a suggested treatment plan. This will include the following:

    • My assessment of what is contributing to your symptoms

    • A suggested treatment plan which may include the following: Acupuncture, Herbal Medicines, Nutraceuticals, Dietary Changes, Lifestyle and Exercise Strategies.

    • Suggested dates to retest any of the labs that were run initially.

Acute Health Concerns

I also treat many patients for acute health concerns like sports injuries and common cold or flu.

For new patients with ACUTE HEALTH CONCERNS, we will spend time diagnosing your injury or acute problem and treat you accordingly. Your appointment will take about 90 minutes for both diagnosis and treatment. Based on your diagnosis I will make a recommendation for treatment protocol that can include acupuncture, herbal medicine, therapeutic exercises, and dietary supplements depending on the case.
